about deux lunes
deux lunes was born out of the study of corset design, from the traditional to the modern. These are our inspiration as we work to transform, deconstruct, and elevate the corset into new incarnations. We are always searching for ways to integrate corsets into modern fashion to redefine & rejuvenate the traditional image of the corset.
Our corsets are made to your custom measurements to provide a maximum of comfort. We emphasize a modern silhouette in our designs. Select one of our designs and it will be made to fit you in the fabric of your choice. Want something truly innovative? We’ll work with you on design, silhouette, fabric, and the embellishments of your corset to provide you with a truly bespoke garment.
All of our corsets are constructed of the highest quality natural fiber fabrics. These include silk, cotton, and our signature suiting wools, built on a structure of cotton coutil, the most traditional of all corset fabrics. Only spring steel flat and spiral bones are used in creating the structure of our corsets.
Designer Kirk Whitmer studied fashion design at The Fashion Institute Technology. His love of the intricate details of fine lingerie and the structure and patterning of tailoring quickly lead him to corsetry. He largely finds inspiration from two sources: “Books provide the ideas, the concepts, and the feelings that I interpret into my designs. The textures and colors of the world around us, particularly the little details, become the palette with which I ‘paint’ my creations.”
In 2012 deux lunes was founded in Brooklyn, New York. In the summer of 2015 we moved to Nordrhein Westfalen and that autumn we celebrated the grand opening of the Wuppertal atelier. We are excited to be established in a city with such a long history in the textile industry.
A Note on the Type
This site is set in Freight Sans. Designed for warm formality in text and an authoritative, helpful tone in display, Freight Sans eschews mannerisms of form in favor of a studied balance of organic and geometric shapes.
