Anna Sui’s asymmetrical art nouveau print emphasizes a woman’s curves against it’s strong vertical elements.

Fashion Week New York is over and all eyes of the fashion world are firmly fixed upon London for week two of Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2014. So where does that put me? Honestly, about five days behind. Still, I do have hope to complete my quest as mentioned in my last piece. But before moving on I want to show a few more pieces from the second half of New York.
I didn’t find so many of the corset inspired pieces that I love, although this is hardly unexpected for summer wear. Softer flowing silhouettes are much more the look for the warmer seasons. What did catch my eye was the use of prints and patterns to visually shape the silhouette. Lace also continues to be a popular design element, but much more as an embellishment than an all-over fabric.

Badgley Mischka used an engineered stripe print with horizontal sheer inserts to create illusions of volume

Dennis Basso’s clever black on white lace placement visually created a classic corset silhouette

One other item that I took note of was the use of unique or, has some have called them, quirky models. The New York Times even did a feature on this recent trend. Whereas it has long been the rule that the fashion was to dominate and the models should be interchangeable mannequins, some designers are finding that memorable models are the best way to leave a lasting impression. This is taking many forms: Small tattoos have paved the way for larger pieces. Some models have been selecting non-natural hair colors or extreme hairstyles to stand out from the crowd. Flaws such as gapped teeth, mannish features, or unconventional beauty are no longer an insurmountable hurdle. At Copper Lune we like to think of all our clients as unique individuals, so this trend works for us.

Katie Gallagher’s opening look set the tone with heavily tattooed skin and severely shorn locks.

This limited color-story look from Whistles was highlighted not by accessories. but by the model’s green hair

Even Marchesa featured temporary tattoos such as this butterfly on each their models. By the way, I love the inserted ribbon bralet of this sheer top.
